Zero MW: Dear Ben Murray Bruce – ‘This is not the first time’ but common Sense

by nadum 3 Apr , 2016

A concerned Nigerian bothered by Senator Ben Bruce’s wrong and inaccurate statements about Nigeria producing zero MW of electricity decided to write a public note to the senator, educating him about the power situation.

Dear Senator, System collapses happen all the time, you just don’t hear about it,or people just dont blow it out of proportion like you did.

Contrary to what You are claiming, In fact they happen so often there’s a running tally that shows they’ve actually been declining in recent years.

So, i am going to attempt to explain the system collapse that happened yesterday.

There was a trip on the one of the many transmission lines that transmit power to the discos from the Gencos, which resulted in loss of about 200MW of generation from the Ihovbor power station in Benin, At that instant, Load was higher than generation this caused a sudden decline in system frequency, culminated in a system Collapse.

This is the first time in my life that Nigeria or any other nation made history by producing zero MW of electricity! pic.twitter.com/frFmv9f7tL

Sir, Total grid generation at collapse inception was 3,196.0MW but you made it sound like generation could not happen and somehow the nation was not producing any power at all.

The low generation at the time was due to shortage of gas supply to generators. This was caused by saboteurs who damaged 2 critical lines, the Escravos Lagos Pipeline system and an export line at the Forcados Terminal.

Could you have used your media influence to dissuade vandals from their acts, No, instead you prefer to pray it into existence, or sponsor it, or whatever. Then you turn around and spread lies.

In case you still dont understand what a system collapse is, Think of the electric grid like several mountain climbers tied together climbing a mountain. One person falls, and pulls everyone down.

A system collapse is similar. Running the grid is an extremely delicate task, because one plant having issues can put the network in jeopardy.

This is common Sense, not your propaganda.

Dear Nigerians, dont be like Senator Bruce don’t fall for the Hype, I think Senator Bruce just wants to be Popular.

Oluwole Isaac.
