Wike, PDP Worried Over Dakuku’s Visit To Oyegun

by nadum 6 Feb , 2016

Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, seem to be worried over the recent visit by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, to the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Oyegun had during the visit said there was something fundamentally wrong with the judgement of the Supreme Court, which favour Wike of Rivers State.

Reacting to the visit by Peterside and other leaders of APC in the state to Oyegun, Wike said was a clear indication that the APC leadership was planning something sinister in the forthcoming legislative re-run elections in the state scheduled to hold on March 19, 2016.

The governor, who spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt, through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Pastor Monwan Etete, insisted that opposition APC has a hidden agenda against the state.

He said, “They have realised that suddenly they have lost everything in the state and having realized that they got the money used in sponsoring APC in last year’s election from Rivers state, they will want to do everything possible to collapse everything the former government of Goodluck Jonathan put in place.

“There is also fear that because APC does not have majority in the National Assembly, they will want to do everything possible to manipulate the re-run elections so that they can form majority in the National Assembly, and then at the state level, install the Speaker.

“When the governor (Wike) said anybody that wants to come and rig the election in Rivers state should prepare his will and APC reacts the way they do, people should ask why they find the governor’s warning worrisome. The Rivers state government will ensure that there is no violence in the re-run elections.

“APC thought they will get judgment from the Supreme Court which was why they fixed the re-run election on February 6 so that they will just take the PDP unawares and then over-run us at the polls. But they are disappointed.”

He cautioned the leadership of the APC against subjecting the Apex Court’s decision to a street discourse, saying the decision of the Supreme Court, not just in Nigeria but the world over, is final and must be respected all parties irrespective of interest.

Also reacting to the meeting between Peterside and Oyegun, chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Felix Obuah, said there was nothing wrong with the judgement of the Supreme Court that favoured Wike.

Obuah, in a statement by his media aide, Jerry Needam, described Oyegun’s position as not only disrespect to the Eminent Justices, the Judiciary and the apex Court in the land but a dangerous threat to the survival of the hard earned democracy in the State and the nation.
