Valentine fever grips celebrities despite recession

Today’s Valentine’s programme is likely to be a peculiar one in Nigeria as the country continues to battle recession, which many believe has reached a cute proportions.

Observers are waiting to see how things will play out in terms of how guys are going to celebrate the day with their loved ones.

In spite of the economic challenges, however, top artistes that include Don Jazzy, Tunde and Wunmi Obe, Odunlade Adekola, Tiwa Savage, Uche Jombo, Bimbo Oshin, Adekunle Gold and Timi Dakolo are rearing to celebrate the day in various ways.

While some will grace some occasions, others are involved in some performances, just as some have, since Monday, been rocking the social media with their fans.

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, originated as a Western feast day honouring one or more early saints.

It is recognied as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.

Several martyrdom  stories associated with the feast. These include a popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire.

According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius, and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.
