Rotimi Amaechi Appointed Member,Board Of Trustees Of By The United Nations

Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been appointed member of the Board of Trustees, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) for a three year term from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018. Presenting the document of appointment to the minister on behalf of the United Nations’ Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, UNITAR’s Director, Decentralized Corporation, Alex Mejia, said by his appointment, Amaechi is expected to make useful and valuable contributions to the growth and development of UNITAR in Nigeria.

He said Amaechi is now empowered to guide UNITAR and all its works in the country.

UNITAR is an autonomous Institute established within the Framework of the United Nations for the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness of Government in achieving major objectives of the United Nations particularly for the purpose of maintaining Peace, Security and Development in developing Nations like Nigeria.

Responding, Amaechi thanked the Secretary General of the United Nations for the honour and pledged to work in accordance with the rules and guidelines of UNITAR and to ensure that its objectives in Nigeria are achieved.
