The Rivers State Ministry of Environment says plans are underway to carry out a scientific study into the remote cause of earth tremor in Ahoada West Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for Environment Professor Roselyn Konya confirmed that some roads and buildings were affected during the recent earth tremor in the area.
She said the aim of the study is to forestall future occurrence.
She advised residents of the affected communities not to panic but be watchful.
The residents of four communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area affected by earth tremor last month had earlier expressed concern over alleged failure of government and multinationals operating in the area to commence investigation into what led to the incident three weeks after.
The communities affected include Oroma, One Man Country, Akeoniso Edagberi and Jankrama.
Some of the residents told journalists in Port Harcourt that they now live in fear following the incident.
The paramount ruler of Edagberi and Better Land communities, Jacob Sunny said the communities were yet to get succor from both government and multinationals since the incident.
The caretaker committee chairman of Ahoada West, Jerry Akuru, blamed the earth tremor on the activities of multinationals operating in the area.
