Mikel Obi was a loser for the first time under Guus Hiddink in 28 matches over the course of two seasons.
Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by PSG at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday in the first leg of the round of 16 of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League season.
The Ligue 1 leaders were in dominant fashion from the kick-off and for the first 20 minutes, it was back to the wall defending from the English club.
The two teams have met in the last three seasons of the competition and had shared one victory each.
But the first real goal threat fell to Diego Costa, who marginally offside, thought his header was goal bound until Kevin Trapp stretched out a glove to palm the ball out via the cross bar.
When the Parisian club finally made the breakthrough in the 38th minute – Mikel had a hand and a leg. He mistakenly tripped Lucas Moura on the edge of the box and then turned away from the resultant freekick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The shot took a nick off his shin with Courtois wrong footed.
But Mikel scored his second ever goal for Chelsea in 58 Champions League matches when he controlled and blasted in from a corner kick in the last minute of the first half.
The second half saw PSG piling on the pressure as they looked for the winner and when it came – it was from Edinson Cavani, who came on as substitute. The second leg is in three week’s time.
In the second match of the day, Benfica scored a 90th minute goal against Zenit St. Petersburg.
