AHEAD of the commencement of Wednesday’s suit against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by former political adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Ali Gulak, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and state chairmen of the embattled party will meet today to fine-tune trouble- shooting measures.

Even though the meeting is being convened by the NWC to deliberate generally on the affairs of the party and was triggered by Gulak’s case against the PDP.

A top member of the PDP, who pleaded for anonymity, said part of the game plan is to suspend Gulak and weaken his case, which comes up tomorrow.

He said the whole idea of the meeting is to tinker with possibilities of wriggling out of the case and further ensure that Acting chairman, Uche Secondus stays until a national convention of the party will be held.

His words: “The party’s hierarchy already knows that the PDP has violated the Constitution by allowing somebody who is not from the North East to occupy the chairmanship seat up till now.

Our source said the meeting would come up with a communique which will still concede the chairmanship seat to the North East but with a proviso that the acting chairman will serve out the remaining period be- fore the convention.

He said despite the troubleshooting measures, members of the party from the North Eastzone insisted that the cur- rent leadership should vacate the office to follow the party’s constitution.

The solidarity for Secondus, he said, would amount to nothing as only following the constitution of the party would save it from a further fall from its glory.

Gulak had dragged Secondus to court demanding his removal. He claimed Secondus is violating the PDP constitution by holding onto the chairmanship instead of calling a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint a chairman from the North-East.

In the suit filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Gulak accused Secondus of usurping the office, which constitutionally belongs to the North-East. Both PDP and Secondus are first and second defendants.
