- The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa has dismissed speculations in certain quarters that some members of the House loyal to Speaker Yakubu Dogara were plotting to replace the embattled Majority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and install him in his stead. He also revealed that the inability of Gbajabiamila to emerge as Speaker was an act of God.
Doguwa who summoned an emergency meeting of the House APC caucus last Tuesday to find a way out of the endless leadership tussle, was being rumoured to have been penciled down to replace Gbajabiamila.
Speaking to Saturday Sun, Doguwa reiterated that he was unaware of the plans, but added that the rumours may have been prompted by the continuous absence of Gbajabiamila during important sittings and meetings of the House of Representatives.
Doguwa said: “Members were fed up. It was as a result of that action that it happened. Officially as a member of the House and as the Chief Whip, I have no interest in Gbajabiamila’s position. There was no such plans. But you cannot stop such a speculation when you continue to create an unnecessary vacuum. Nobody has approached me officially to ask me of my intentions to fill Gbajabiamila’s position. The House Leader is my good friend and we have always remained that.
