Murray-Bruce apologises to Unilag students over ‘poor treatment’ at his birthday party

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has apologised to Mass Communications students of the University of Lagos over the way they were treated during his 60th birthday celebrations.
The outspoken Senator, who apologised to the students via his Twitter handle, explained that he was constrained by the large turnout, which made it impossible for him to attend to everyone and resolve all issues promptly.

The Senator had reportedly invited the students to his birthday party on Friday at the Eko Hotels in Lagos.

However, the students later accused him of discriminating against them by getting them to seat in the less glamourous section of the hall. The students added that they were served lower quality refreshment that “high profile guests” with some of them getting food in plastic plates.

Murray-Bruce had launched his book, The Commonsense Revolution, at the event, which had the likes of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Senator Dino Melaye in attendance.

When it came to the distribution of the book, the students were shunned, another development that left several of them disappointed; more so because they had been invited to the event.

Murray-Bruce, however, explained that it was not just the students who didn’t get the books.

“My friends including UtomiPat did not get books either. I only knew after the event. The demand was high and they sold out,” he tweeted.

He assured the students that arrangements had been made for them to get copies of the book, adding that it was also available for download on his website.
