A pregnant woman and two other persons were killed by a tipper lorry which ran into a crowd at Osholo village in Etsako East Local Government of Edo State. Two others persons (the tipper driver and his conductor) were also killed by mob.
The tipper driver was said to be coming from Ekperi in Etsako Central Local Government Area, heading towards Weppa in Etsako East when it ran into the crowd, killing three persons, and injuring several others.
According to witness, the driver and his conductor were making efforts to carry the dead and the injured to nearby hospital, when some people from Osholo community came to the scene of the accident and set the tipper, the driver and the conductor ablaze.
It was learnt that the action of the Osholo community angered the people of Weppa community, who invaded Osholo and set some houses ablaze.
The timely intervention of law enforcement agents was said to have reduced the number of casualties.
Several persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Confirming the incident, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike said as soon as the report got to the police, officers were immediately drafted to the area to forestall further aggression, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
