Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state may be looking at life after office and may have taken some decisions.

Among such decisions could be a plot to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) according to fresh reports.

Out-going governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, is reportedly plotting to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Point is reporting.

The report quoted sources as saying the governor had made up his mind to either join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly before the expiration of his tenure on February 25, 2017 or immediately after his tenure ends.

The governor would be handing over the baton of leadership to Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the APC who won the recent election in the state.

The report quoted the source as recalling the meetings Mimiko had with President Muhammadu Buhari in the heat of the substitution of Eyitayo Jegede’s name with that of Jimoh Ibrahim, a businessman.

“Mimiko had been meeting with the APC candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, and other leaders in the state. But he feels that it would be better to get things done from the top, for a solid arrangement.

“That was the essence of his meeting with the President.

“Though he told your colleagues that he was in Aso Rock to discuss the Ondo impasse with the President, I can confirm to you that the speculation of his defection to the APC is true,” the source was quoted as saying.

Mimiko had left the Alliance for Democracy to the PDP where he served under late Governor Olusegun Agagu and later as minister of Housing and Urban Planning in the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He joined the Labour Party later and won the governorship election against Agagu.

He again dumped the Labour Party in 2014 and returned to PDP.

Recall that while the PDP rejected the recent election that was won by Akeredolu, Mimiko congratulated the new governor-elect.

The source said: “It was glaring to discerning minds that our governor was only playing to the gallery in his support for Jegede’s candidacy.

““Apart from that, his policies in the state also do not give Jegede any chance.

“But his defection won’t be a surprise to most of us. We have long seen the handwriting on the wall.”
