LASG to construct flyovers in Ajah, Abule Egba

by nadum 14 Dec , 2015

The Lagos State Government says two flyovers will be constructed in Ajah and Abule Egba – two of the state’s high-density traffic zones – in 16 months.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, who made this known on Sunday, added that the flyovers would be constructed around Ajah roundabout and Abule Egba junction.

He explained that the projects had been approved by the state’s Executive Council and had been awarded to contractors.

Ayorinde said, “The projects will be completed within 16 months as part of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s ongoing road infrastructure projects across the state.

“The construction of the reinforced concrete flyover and signalised intersection at Ajah roundabout will be undertaken simultaneously with the rehabilitation of Freedom Road in Lekki, with a view to reducing heavy traffic in the areas.”

The commissioner stated that the Ajah flyover would have a solar-powered signalised intersection in order to improve traffic, while the upgrade of Freedom Road would ease traffic for vehicles trying to connect Lekki through Admiralty Way.

“The construction of the reinforced concrete flyover at Abule Egba junction will equally bring relief to commuters using the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in the Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area.

“Like the Ajah project, the Abule Egba flyover will also have signalised intersection to service Oko-Oba and other link roads in the area,” Ayorinde added.

He said other areas had not been left behind in the road infrastructure, adding that the government had awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of some roads in the Epe Local Government Area of the state.

He noted that the Epe division of the state was undergoing rapid industrial and commercial growth arising from the commencement of developmental projects in the Lekki Free Trade Zones. Ayorinde said as such, a massive upgrade of strategic roads within the Epe division had become necessary.

The commissioner said the new road contracts were coming on the heels of several other projects being constructed by the Ambode-led administration.

He listed areas such as Brown Street in Oshodi, Ago Palace Way in Okota, Ijegun-Igando Road, Ayobo-Ipaja Road and Coker-Aguda Road in Surulere, as among projects at various stages of advance work.

Ayorinde said in line with the government’s zero tolerance for potholes, many roads had been repaired, while others had been earmarked for repairs before the end of the year.
