The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, denied any information of the rehabilitation and modernisation of the N1tn railway contract awarded between 2010 and 2015.
He said this on Tuesday before an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives setup to investigate the use of the funds.
“I don’t know about the past contracts because I was not in office when it was awarded, but I can talk more on our progress and what we are doing now,” the minister said.
Amaechi also added that he had ordered a full audit which will be made public when the report is ready.
Also appearing before the committee was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bello Haliru-Mohammed, he also denied that he awarded any rail contracts.
“Please, note that the PPA was in force throughout my tenure as chairman of the board of the corporation,” he said.
It was gathered that many of the railway contracts were awarded during Haliru-Mohammed’s tenure.
Haliru-Mohammed, was a former Minister of Defence and chaired the Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation between 2009 and 2011.
