Contrary to reports that he has since stepped down as Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, following an alleged court judgment, Konbowei Friday Benson, on Thursday said he remains the Speaker. He also described as “untrue and lies in the highest order”, a claim that the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt Court, had on December 9, 2015, nullified his election in the State Assembly.
According to him, he has sufficient proof that the judgement for that day was delivered in his favour.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, he insisted that he still remains the Speaker of the State Assembly and member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 4.
He maintained that there was no enrollment order from the court asking him to vacate his seat, neither was there an order that he should meet the Independent National Electoral Commission for a fresh election.
“INEC has not informed me of any notice of enrollment or whatever that they have also received, there is nothing,” he said.
Benson described the alleged judgment against him as a purported claim by the All Progressives Congress with the intention to cause confusion.
