FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria to battle Brazil, England

by nadum 31 May , 2016

The Nigeria U-17 Women’s team, the Flamingoes, have been placed in a seemingly tough group in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Jordan as they will be facing Brazil, England and Korea DPR in the group phase.

The draws for Jordan 2016 were conducted on Monday with Coach Bala Nikyu in attendance, alongside coaches of other qualified teams.

Nigeria has reached the quarter –finals in the last three editions of the competition (Trinidad and Tobago 2010, Azerbaijan 2012 and Costa Rica 2014), and qualified for this year’s finals after hammering Namibia and South Africa home and away.

The team will hope not to at least go below their past records even though they have been placed in what could pass for a group of death.

Ghana, the other African team on parade, will be campaigning in Group D where they are pitched alongside USA, Paraguay and Japan.

Ghana pride themselves as the only African country to reach the semis of this tournament.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is Jordan’s first major international tournament. Matches will take place in the capital, Amman as well as Irbid and Zarqa.

The fifth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals will hold 30th September – 21st October this year.
