The captain announced at the weekend that he will not be handed a contract extension, though the club have since opened the door for one, prompting a Change.org petition obviously. One Chelsea fan has started a petition in an attempt to convince the club to award John Terry a new contract.
The club captain told reporters on Sunday that his deal at Stamford Bridge would not be renewed and indicated that he would look to continue playing outside of the Premier League.
But following Terry’s revelation, Chelsea issued a statement hinting that the door may still be open for the 35-year-old to sign a new deal at the club… but some impatient fans want to see a concrete answer quickly.
The founder of the petition, Chelsea fan Suraj Patel from Brighton, writes: “I believe that John Terry, the greatest defender to grace the Premier League and the captain of Chelsea Football Club, deserves a new contract at the end of the season.
“He is arguably the greatest player in the club’s history and to let him leave at the end of the season, possibly without a trophy, would be a catastrophic mistake by the club. He is Mr Chelsea, give him what he deserves.”
The petition has just shy of 3,000 signatures at the time of writing and is now promoting the questionable hashtag #JusticeforJT.
