Tragedy struck at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Guest Houses, when a fire outbreak occurred around 2:00 am, on Thursday, killing a member of the delegation of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, the new Chancellor of the University.

The monarch and his companions were at the university to attend El-Kanemi’s installation as Chancellor of the university, which had already taken place.

The Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Suleiman Yakubu confirmed the incident.

Four guest rooms were affected by the fire – A12, A13, A14 and A15.

The deceased who was a brother to the Shehu or Bornu will be flown to Maiduguri for burial later today.
