Cristiano Ronaldo set to scoop top prize at Monday evening’s ceremony
The winner of the 2016 Ballon d’Or will be Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a ‘leaked’ copy of France Football ahead of Monday night’s ceremony.
A supposed front page of the publication has been circulated online, featuring Ronaldo clutching the trophy, which would take him within one of Lionel Messi’s record five Ballon d’Or.
That would appear to indicate that the Frenchman finished third in the voting behind Clasico rivals Messi and Ronaldo.
Ronaldo will not be present at the ceremony on Monday evening, having landed in Japan ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The Portuguese is set to be officially announced as this year’s winner at around 8pm GMT.

France Football, who founded the award, will publish an exclusive interview with the winner, and the front page would seem to confirm that it will be the Real Madrid superstar.
