The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State are engaged in war of words over the alleged donation of N3 billion to the candidate of the PDP in the just concluded Edo State governorship election, Pastor Osaze Ize-Iyamu by Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike.

The APC candidate for the Rivers South East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, had while speaking at the party senatorial district rally at Ngo Town, headquarters of Andoni local government area of the state, alleged Wike invested more than N3 billion from the lean resources of the state to support the PDP in Edo State.

Abe stated that the outcome of the governorship election in Edo State had disgrace the governor, who he alleged went to Bodo community in Gokana local government area of the state, to celebrate his anticipated victory of PDP in the election.

He said that Wike disguised his intention by claiming to flag off the Kpopie-Bodo road in Gokana LGA,which had almost been completed by the last administration, with the original intention to order to ridicule him (Abe) and assure his people that Nigerians were beginning to vote out APC.

But, in a swift reaction, the PDP spokesman in the state, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, who insisted that Wike did not donate any N3 billion to PDP or its governorship candidate in Edo State, Ize-Iyamu, accused Abe of being careless with his statements.

Nwanosike, who addressed newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday said, “Well, I know you heard the governor clearly when he said there was no such thing. But let’s put it on record that N3 billion is not N30 million. In this present day reality, the is no how any state government can cough out N3 billion when we are aware that allocation from the federal government to Rivers State for the past few months have been less than N4 billion.

“So, it shows clearly that Magnus Abe is just careless in his statements. He doesn’t understand that Rivers people have passed that stage. We know that the PDP in Edo State had worked so hard to convince the people of Edo that they need to change that change in Edo State.

“Please, Rivers State government has a lot of laudable projects that they will do with money and not to use our funds to throw around like Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, his boss bragged that he single-handedly finance the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
