THE All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has said that it will not be moved by what it claimed, yesterday, was  Senator Magnus Abe’s apparent inclination towards pairing with Governor Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The secretary of the party in the state, Mr. Emeka Beke who spoke to Vanguard yesterday, said that Senator Abe was compounding matters with his seeming determination not to toe the common path as agreed by major stakeholders in the party.

Beke spoke against the background of claims by Abe in an interview with Vanguard where he said that Governor Wike warned him (Abe) about former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who is the leader of the party in the state. Abe who served as Secretary to the State Government in Amaechi’s first term and subsequently as a senator from 2011 was part of Amaechi’s political family, before falling out with the former governor.

At issue is Abe’s claim that Amaechi and his close associates were against his 2019 governorship aspiration. Speaking yesterday, on the issue, Beke who like nearly all party officials in the state is aligned to Amaechi said: “Clearly, after the rerun, the leader of the party in the state, Amaechi addressed the party on the need to rebuild and make the party formidable. He stressed the need for the party to be strong.

“But Abe refused to abide by the advice. Nobody has stopped or intends to stop him from running in the election. Amaechi is not against him. But the position of Amaechi is that we need to build the party to be able to stand the PDP in the election.

“It is obvious that Abe is beginning to fall for the PDP and Governor Wike. But APC is not afraid of that development. Those who believe in APC are not going to Wike for anything but Abe is.” “Abe is taking everything to the extreme. All APC members should remain strong. We are rebuilding the party, like what happened last week at Ogbakiri where over 2000 members of PDP decamped to our party is a testimony.
