The chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdullaziz Yari, has aappealed both parties, Okezie Ikpeazu and Uche Ogah, to respect the rule of law in the interest of peace and security of the state.
Governor Yari, who noted that the entire country was worried about the political development in Abia State, assured that the 36 state governors were working assidously behind the scene to guarantee peace in Abia, while the logjam lasted.
The NGF chairman, who advised the traditional rulers from Abia State that were in sokoto on condolence over the death of Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, stressd that, all sides claiming victory over the governorship contest should respect the court and avoid acts capable of triggering violence.
“As a forum, we are concerned about what is going on in Abia and we are working to ensure all sides respect the court, and uphold peace. Abia is known for peace, as such, we should not do what will disturb the peace of the state,” he noted.
Ealier, HRM Eze Eberechi, the leader of the traditonal rulers and chairman of both the South East Council of Traditional Rulers and Abia State Traditional Rulers’ Council, commended Sokoto State government for its hospitality to people of Abia and all South East residing in sokoto.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on his part, maintained that Sokoto State had a long standing relationship with the people of the South East, and the visit of the traditional rulers on a condolence had further reaffirmed that relationship.
While stressing that Nigerians should lay emphasis on things that unite the nation, Tambuwal prayed that Abia State governor would soon overcome his present challenge.
