APC Raises Concerns Over Wike’s Rhetoric On Rerun Elections

by nadum 5 Feb , 2016

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over what it described as the unguarded statements of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, over alleged dangerous utterances in the build up to the rerun elections slated for March 19 this year.In a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni, said it became necessary to speak so that  the attention of security agencies and other relevant bodies be drawn to the dangerous threats by the governor in the lead-up to the state’s rerun elections into the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.

The statement said: “The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike in a brazen show of force has told officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare their will before coming to conduct the elections in Rivers state.

“The APC is also aware of threats issued by the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike to civil servants in the state to either support and work for the People Democratic Party (PDP) or face sack.

“The plot also include intimidation of eligible voters, INEC officials and security operatives deployed to ensure peaceful, free and credible rerun elections in Rivers state”

The statement, however, urged security agencies to be on high alert over the dangerous threats by the governor and by extension the PDP in the lead-up to the Rivers re-run election, while also advising the governor and his party to tow the path of peaceful elections.

“The APC advises the Rivers State Governor and the PDP to grow out of its penchant for  ‘do or die’ politics. We reiterate previous calls on the PDP to embrace the new Nigeria where elections are peaceful and votes of the people count.

“We call on INEC and security operatives to be mindful of the dangerous threats by the Rivers State Governor, the APC is confident in INEC and security agencies ability to deliver peaceful, free and credible supplementary election come March 19, 2016,” the statement added.
