A former senator, who represented Rivers South-East in the Senate, Mr. Magnus Abe, has said he will not honour an invitation to attend the public hearing of a petition written against the Nigerian Army by the Civil Liberties Organisation.
He noted that the person who signed the petition leading to the public hearing was Mr. Livingstone Wechie, an ally of Wike.
Abe alleged that Wechie had been championing a campaign of calumny against the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
He said Wechie was the pilot of a group, Integrity Group, which submitted a petition against former Governor Rotimi Amaechi before the Senate.
Abe further noted that Wechie was the plaintiff in a suit which was filed to stop the swearing in of an APC lawmaker, Victoria Nyeche, to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Abe said Wike had for long been manipulating the National Assembly to intervene in the affairs of Rivers State against the interest of the opposition APC in the state.
Abe’s letter to Dogara was titled, “Re: Politically manipulated public hearings on Rivers State.”
The letter read in part, “Mr. Speaker sir, I have read through the said petition and it is clear that the petition sponsored through your office is nothing but an ill-disguised attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party to manipulate federal agencies and influence public opinion in order to secure undue advantage for the PDP in the coming rerun elections.”
