The Director General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Suleiman Zakari Kasauri, has said that inadequate logistics was responsible for the Federal Government’s decision to reduce the three weeks of orientation camping to two weeks.

The DG gave the explanation recently in Umuahia, during his routine inspection visit to the Batch A second stream at the state orientation camp. Kasauri commended the cordial relationship between the scheme and the state government, adding that the state government should come to the aid of the orientation camp in controlling erosion, which he described as a serious threat to the lives of corps members in the camp, stating that the female hostel seriously needed rehabilitation.

Also Speaking, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, said that Abia had capacity to provide shoes and clothes to the NYSC and all uniformed men in Nigeria. The Governor further charged the Federal Government to make it compulsory for military and paramilitary officers to patronize Aba made wears to help boost the economy of the country.

According to him, it has been confirmed across the country that most of the leather wears being exported are from Aba, and call on the authorities to get involved to encourage them to do better. Ikpeazu pointedly requested that NYSC should patronize made in Aba products as the artisans can produce better uniforms and foot wears for corps members at faster rate, and would meet orders on notice. “Abia is ready to provide both clothes and shoes for both NYSC and other uniformed organizations in Nigeria,” Ikpeazu said. He noted that it was high time Nigeria stopped spending scarce foreign exchange on items that can be produced locally.

He also directed Odefa and the SA on Special Projects, to ensure that the culture of maintenance and regular inspection of government facilities were enshrined. of Police is alleged to have acquired assets totaling 150 million dollars, including money stashed in banks, shares in blue chip companies and 14 luxury buildings.”

He then urged Nigerians to wage war against corruption and support the current efforts of government by forming a group he called: “Citizens’ Coalition Against Corruption.
