MOSOP Condemns Killings In Ogoniland

by nadum 12 May , 2016

The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has condemned what it described as “the unabated killing of sung and unsung nationals of Ogoni ethnic nationality” in Rivers State by unknown assailants.

MOSOP, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by its president, Legborsi Saro Pyagbara, in reaction to the recent spate of killings in Ogoni communities, warned the perpetrators of such gruesome, cold-blooded murders to stop forthwith, and called on security outfits to leave no stone unturned in apprehending those behind the killings with a view to bringing them to account for their heinous crimes.

The statement reads in part, “The apex organisation of the Ogoni people, MOSOP, has been outraged at, and condemns in strong terms the unabated killing of our sung and unsung nationals by unknown assailants and warned the perpetrators of these gruesome, cold-blooded murders to stop forthwith.

“We call on the security outfits to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the culprits with a view to bringing them to account for the heinous crime. Between March and today, Ogoni has recorded several needless killing of innocent citizens including Mr. Lekie Giagbara, a chartered accountant, Dr. Vincent Eebe, lecturer and an outstanding linguist; Messrs. Dan Gbesi, Charles Atukor, John Igbara and Barineka Itaagha.

“The continuous spilling of innocent blood in Ogoni is not only worrisome but absolutely unacceptable, condemnable and the perpetrators and the masterminds must be brought to book immediately.

No matter what may be adduced as the reason for the murders, no man or woman has any right to deprive anybody of his/her inalienable right to life. It is undeniable that the killing of victims violated this right, which is protected by our laws.
