North Korea successfully tests a hydrogen bomb.
Pyonyng has claimed to have tested a thermonuclear weapon, specifically a hydrogen bomb this morning. The explosion triggered a 5.1 magnitude earthquake that was felt for miles. The successful explosion was blasted at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site with the epicenter 30 miles north west of the thencitynof Kilju, which is in the north east of the country.
The detonation ends weeks of speculation that leader Kim Jong-Un had developed such a nuclear weapon. A hydrogen bomb is basically lighter than an atomic bomb which is a fission bomb, but significantly more powerful. The blast is created by the fusion of hydrogen atoms.
The successful detention marks a measure step in North Korea’s nuclear development and is bound to cause considerable anxiety to neighboring countries.
The UN Security Council will meet later today to determine sanctions to be taken against North Korea for violating UN rules. The Whitehouse issued a statement that it could not confirm North Korea’s claim at this point
