by nadum 17 Jun , 2016

Two unemployed boys, Rowland Agbra and Dare Fatai, both aged 18, were on Thursday charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly stealing cooking utensils worth N23, 000.

The accused persons, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 13 at Philip Ayinde Street, Itakete in the Imuder area of Ajangbadi.

Uko noted that the accused stole the items from the complainant, Mrs Atinuke Omolola.

“The accused came to the complainant’s shop on the pretence that they wanted to buy some kitchen equipment.

“One of the accused distracted the complainant, while the other stole the pot but they were caught by another shop owner who saw what happened,” he said.

Uko noted that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Bolaji Abdul, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his clients, pledging that they would always be available for further hearings and would not jump bail.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety each, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Further hearing in the case has been fixed for July 7.
